Recently Released: Maroons - the Great Palmares

Set in 17th Century Brazil at the beginning of the slave trade, Maroons chronicles the rise and fall of the Quilombos of Palmares when a group of escaped slave settlements develop into a functioning sovereignty and fend off attacks by the Portuguese and Dutch for 93 years led by their greatest leader and war chief Zumbi dos Palmares.

A two-part docuseries on the birth and evolution of the free jazz movement in American jazz. The series begins with Part One - "the New Wave Innovators" (John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy and Pharaoh Sanders), while Part Two features, "the Free Jazz Innovators" (Cecil Taylor, Sunny Murray, Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, Albert Ayler and Archie Shepp).
