Maroons - The Great Palmares

Set in 17th Century Brazil at the beginning of the slave trade, Maroons chronicles the rise and fall of the Quilombos of Palmares when a group of escaped slave settlements develop into a functioning sovereignty and fend off attacks by the Portuguese and Dutch for 93 years led by their greatest leader and war chief Zumbi dos Palmares. This is part one of a two-part docuseries focusing on maroon settlements.
